We recently connected with Lauren Shaber from Lauren Lives Healthy. She maintains a website about how to live a balanced lifestyle in the Bay Area and will be contributing easy ways to get outside and stay active on our blog in the upcoming months. Congrats to you, Lauren, for being awarded as the Best Local Blogger by the Bay Area A-List voters!!

Here's what Lauren has to say about Spring...

We’re lucky to be located in the heart of California, where the beginning of Spring tends to feel a bit like summer with the warm weather and sunny days. It’s a chance to get outside, enjoy fresh produce & revisit your goals for the year. If one of your goals is to get healthier – whether that’s by losing weight, toning up, or eating healthier, Spring is the perfect time to kick start them. Here are a few ways you can take advantage of the new season to help reach your goals:

Get Outside

Now that it’s a bit warmer & the sun shines later, it’s a perfect time to get outside and go for a walk, run, bike or hike with your family. Some wonderful family-friendly spots to visit around the Bay include Lands End, Alum Rock Park, Guadalupe River Trail, Shoreline at Mountain View, and Alviso Marina County Park.

Shop Local

Spring is the perfect time to visit your local Farmers' Market! There is a lot of fresh produce this time of year, which can help you stay in the kitchen. It’s also a great activity to do with family & friends to enjoy the nice weather. Mountain View, Campbell, Sunnyvale, & San Francisco all have wonderful farmers markets, though there are plenty of others spread throughout the Bay too!

Bring Out the Grill

I know this is a summer thing, but we can still get it going with this gorgeous weather! If you have a grill, now is a great time to pull it out and use it to create a healthy meal (or visit your local park – most have a grill you can use). Cook up some steaks/chicken/veggie kebabs for a nice meal and finish up with some grilled honey peaches. Good for your waistline and fun for your family!

So let’s get out there and celebrate the start of Spring without compromising our health!
