Jennifer Tyler Lee, mother and author of The 52 New Foods Challenge, has been contributing to Edible Silicon Valley since the beginning! We can attest that she is quite a spunky genius when it comes to offering tips on how to create healthy and fun recipes at home with your children.

I recently went to a Mom’s Night Out demo and dinner event at the Williams-Sonoma flagship store in San Francisco, in honor of The 52 New Foods Challenge. There, I met Jennifer for the first time and was immediately drawn to her charisma, sweet charm and passion for teaching children how to love cooking. You just want to be around her! This energy also comes off in her book, which has been flying off shelves, and rightfully so.

Among an incredibly bubbly room of women (mostly moms), we watched Jennifer demo some of the most popular recipes from The 52 New Foods Challenge—including the brussels sprouts chips. Actually, my favorite takeaway from the demo was learning that the trick to making crispy brussels sprouts chips is to spread the leaves apart on the pan. She also whipped up chicken stir-fry, asparagus, quinoa cakes, fennel and her "The Chocolate Rocket" avocado & chocolate pudding (page 152 of her book), which was my personal favorite because I just couldn't believe how delicious and healthy it tasted.

These recipes are simple enough for children to make and a definite fit for adults to eat. And boy, did we all enjoy a tasty feast at the end to wrap up the night!

Thank you Jennifer for the invitation to Women's Night Out. As someone who doesn't have children of my own yet, I was fascinated to learn about parenting and a smart approach to cooking with my family, when that time comes.
