Chris Chowaniec

Gusto for food, gatherings & good times.

Chris Chowaniec is a food and lifestyle photographer based out of San Francisco and Chicago. He is the senior photographer at Edible Silicon Valley and his freelance work has been featured in advertising, editorial and web campaigns nationwide. Chowaniec’s clients are mostly within the food and beverage industry. He especially enjoys working with chefs, culinary entrepreneurs, sustainability advocates and writers.

Chowaniec is dedicated to pursuing his two passions: cooking and photography. His love for photography started when his grandfather (who painted, drew and sculpted) taught him how to use a medium-format camera. In 2009, he started a wedding and event photography business in Chicago, and his work has been featured in The Knot and Glamour magazines.

Chowaniec’s busy parents taught him how to cook for the family at a young age, and he’s been in the kitchen since. In 2011, he took his love of food to the next level by getting together with his brother to create a pickled product line and work as private chefs via their company, The Chow Brothers (TheChowBrothers.com).

Chowaniec moved to the Bay Area in 2013 to become a classically trained chef at the International Culinary Center in Campbell, focusing on sustainability within their farm-to-table program. He has spent some time in the kitchens of Spruce and Café des Amis in San Francisco, and interned at Boccalone in Oakland to learn about making salumi.

“Creating something meaningful, putting a smile on people’s faces and showcasing the energy and passion we all have for food is what gets me going. Having respect and a foundation in the craft of cooking helps me be a more disciplined and creative photographer.”
